Harit Talwar is EVP Discover Network, Discover Financial Services, and a member of its Executive Committee. Mr. Talwar is head of Discover Network and is responsible for all facets of its business, with merchants, acquirers, issuers and partner networks, including sales, marketing, product development, operations and risk. He has overseen business-model evolution at Discover Network and rapid growth in its business and customer footprint.
Before joining Discover in 2000, Mr. Talwar was Managing Director of Morgan Stanley’s Consumer Banking Group International. In this role he was responsible for their U.K. business, which he led to a profitable trajectory, including improving market share. Prior to that, Mr. Talwar spent 15 years at Citigroup working in India, the Middle East, the United States and Emerging Markets in Europe. During this time, he held a number of senior roles including general management and country management positions in cards, loans and retail banking. His involvement with developing start-up businesses, driving business acquisition/integration and managing global businesses has enabled him to obtain diverse experience by geography, product groups, functions and business areas.
Mr. Talwar holds a B.A. Hons Degree in Economics from Delhi University in India and an M.B.A. from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad, an affiliate of Harvard Business School. In addition to his responsibilities at Discover, he is actively involved in charities dedicated to education and children/women development. He has served in various leadership positions with American School of Warsaw, Poland; America India Foundation; College of Lake County, Illinois; Children’s Memorial Hospital, Chicago and Pratham, UK.
Paul H. Briggs is Senior Vice President, Discover Financial Services and a member of the Discover Financial Services Management Committee. He has responsibility for two operations centers supporting millions of merchant outlets accepting Discover Network transactions throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and China. Additional responsibilities include providing operational support for the Network’s third-party issuers, acquirers and processors. The centers are located in Columbus, Ohio and Phoenix, Arizona, with headquarters in Riverwoods, Illinois.
Prior to joining Discover in November 1996, Mr. Briggs held management positions at Morgan Stanley & Dean Witter within the company headquarters, retail brokerage and financial services business areas from 1985 to 1996. Mr. Briggs has held various financial and technology management positions at G.D. Searle & Co./NutraSweet and American Hospital Supply Corporation.
Mr. Briggs has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
GLORIA COLGAN
Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategy, Discover Network
Gloria K. Colgan is the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Strategy for the Discover Network and a member of the Discover Financial Services Management Committee. The Discover Network is a business unit of Discover Financial Services, and Discover Network Cards are currently accepted at millions of merchant and cash access locations. Ms. Colgan is responsible for acceptance marketing strategies, product development and management, branding and communications, pricing, and portfolio analytics.
In addition to deep industry knowledge in issuing and acquiring, Ms. Colgan provides Discover with experience in all aspects of the payments industry, including commercial, consumer, private label and cobranding. Since joining Discover in 2005, Ms. Colgan has been instrumental in the expansion of the Discover Network through relationships with significant card issuers and major merchant acquirers. Discover Network has also formed strategic alliances with China UnionPay and JCB in Japan that provide for reciprocal card acceptance.
Prior to joining Discover, Ms. Colgan was the Senior Vice President of the Commercial Card Product Group for JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) and was responsible for development and management of the purchasing, travel and entertainment, fleet and stored value card programs, and products of the new organization formed by the JPMC merger with Bank One. In addition, she managed all training and external communications functions for the commercial card organization.
Prior to JPMC, Ms. Colgan was with Sears Credit Services managing their commercial credit card programs as well as several consumer affinity card products. Before joining Sears, she worked for McKinsey and Company advising financial services companies on issues of marketing strategy, organizational structure and reengineering opportunities.
Ms. Colgan earned her M.B.A. in Finance from The University of Chicago and B.S. in Business and Economics from Bradley University.
Beth R. Horowitz is Vice President of Product Management for Discover Network, a business unit of Discover Financial Services. In this capacity, Ms. Horowitz leads ongoing product management efforts as well as new product development and innovation initiatives - including consumer and business credit and debit products, the innovative Cash Over program designed to provide consumer convenience at the point of sale, and Discover Network Zip. Additionally, Ms. Horowitz provides leadership and prioritization for all network functionality.
Prior to joining Discover in 2006, Ms. Horowitz was Senior Vice President, Advanced Payments Solutions for MasterCard International. In this role she was responsible for the Innovation and Planning group that managed product marketing, planning and R&D efforts, and led the company-wide innovation practice to drive new product development worldwide.
In addition to various business development and customer relations roles, Beth served as global group head of Co-Branding, where she was instrumental in solidifying the commitment and growth of key partnerships and managed MasterCard’s first multifunction smart card project in Australia.
Before joining MasterCard in 1989, Beth held positions at Shearson Lehman Hutton, Development Dimensions International and Working Woman Magazine.
Beth earned her Master of Business Administration from Pace University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York. She is a member of the American Management Association and International Who’s Who.
Joseph Hurley is Vice President of Discover Network Strategic Development, a role he has held since 2003. In this position, he is responsible for the strategic initiatives associated with Discover Network, as well as Network Alliances, Third Party Credit Issuance and the Network Prepaid business. In addition, he led the acquisition of PULSE Association and is responsible for the strategic alliance forged with China UnionPay and JCB.
Mr. Hurley joined Discover Financial Services as a Sales Account Executive in 1985, selling Discover acceptance prior to the launch of the card in 1986. Since that time, he has held numerous posts within the company in such areas as Marketing, Product Management, Government Relations and Network Products and Services. Before his current assignment, he held the position of Vice President of National Accounts.
Mr. Hurley holds a degree in business and economics from Randolph-Macon College. He also attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and Keller Graduate School of Management. He is currently the Chief Representative for DFS in China. Mr. Hurley is involved in a number of financial, civic and charitable organizations, is a member of the board of directors for Electronic Funds Transfer Association, and has recently served on the board of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
Matt Johanson is Vice President of Acquirer Relations
for Discover Network, a business unit of Discover Financial Services.
Mr. Johanson is responsible for helping to drive
Discover’s merchant acceptance inititatives by developing
and maintaining Discover Network’s merchant acquiring
relationships. In this role, Mr. Johanson has been instrumental
in the successful signing of Discover Network’s
key merchant acquiring agreements.
Since joining Discover Network in 1996, Mr. Johanson
has held several positions including Director of Application
Development and Director of Operations. As the Director
of Discover Network’s Project Management Office,
he applied his cross-functional expertise to the design,
platform development, change management, and client engagements
required to launch Discover Network’s merchant acquiring
initiatives.
Prior to joining Discover, Mr. Johanson held roles with
Caterpillar, Hewitt Associates and Eastman Kodak Company
in the areas of technology, operations, project management,
and change management.
Mr. Johanson earned his B.S. in Applied Computer Science
from Illinois State University.
DAN MATYSIK
Director, Financial Planning and Administration, Discover Network
Kevin O'Donnell is Vice President of Strategic Relationships
and National Accounts for Discover Network, a business unit of
Discover Financial Services. In this role, he
is responsible for Discover Network's key merchant client
management.
Mr. O'Donnell leads a team who oversee the relationships
with Discover Network's largest merchant clients. This
includes enhancing contractual terms and compliance as
well as pursuing marketing, product and service opportunities
with these key merchants.
Mr. O'Donnell began his tenure with Discover in 1985 and
since then he has held numerous positions within the company
in the areas of merchant acquisition sales, district and
regional merchant sales management, key relationship management
and merchant network operations. Prior to joining Discover,
Mr. O'Donnell worked for Maine National Bank in Portland,
Maine and was the owner/operator of a small business.
Mr. O'Donnell is a Board Member of Students in Free Enterprise
(SIFE). He serves on the Chicago Board of the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), is a member of their
National Field Operations Group and served as a past board
president of the JDRF Mid-Ohio Chapter. Additionally,
he is a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. O'Donnell holds a Masters degree from Central Michigan
University and a Bachelor degree from Niagara University.
JOBY ORLOWSKY
Vice President, Acceptance, Analytics and Decision Support, Discover Financial Services
Joby Orlowsky is Vice President of Acceptance, Analytics
& Decision Support for Discover Network, a business
unit of Discover Financial Services. In his role at Discover,
Mr. Orlowsky is responsible for all marketing strategy
and execution related to the acquisition, lifecycle management
and retention of merchant and acquirer relationships.
In addition, responsibility for all data structures and
analysis for Discover Network falls under his span of
control. As one of the four major payment networks in
the United States, Discover Network is actively driving
growth in the payment industry and increasing the utilization
of the network to increase value to merchants, acquirers
and cardmembers. Additionally, Discover Network is a leader
in applying relevant information to support growth in
the payments arena and deliver value to our constituents.
Mr. Orlowsky began his career in 1989 at Household International,
now a division of HSBC, where he held multiple functional
responsibilities in finance, marketing and operations.
Since joining Discover in 1996, Mr. Orlowsky has held
positions in the issuing and network business units of
Discover.
He holds a BS in Finance from the University of Iowa
and his MBA in Marketing from DePaul University.
Rob Tourt is Vice President of Network Services for Discover Financial Services, a role he has held since 2004. In this position, he is responsible for network security, technical specifications and regulations, and the operations that support the international acceptance of Discover Network Cards. With more than 15 years of risk management experience, Mr. Tourt is an industry-leading expert in payments security.
Mr. Tourt joined Discover Financial services in 1986 as a Fraud Investigator. In 1991, he designed and implemented Discover’s first merchant fraud detection system, Sniper-a system that ran successfully for more than a decade. Since that time, he has held several positions within the company ranging from Recovery Collections Manager and Director of National Sales Support, to Vice President of Network Products.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Tourt served as Vice President of Network Operations and Risk Management. In that role, he was instrumental in modifying internal loss prevention systems and external data security policies to address the emerging problem of card skimming fraud losses enabled by database compromises.
During his extensive tenure with Discover, Mr. Tourt led the operational implementation of several diverse Discover Network strategic initiatives, including Discover Network’s initial third-party issuing programs and the network reciprocity agreements with China UnionPay and JCB.
Mr. Tourt holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He currently is on the Board of Directors of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards Council and he is a member of the Electronic Transactions Association’s Fraud & Risk Committee. Mr. Tourt is a former Board member of the Merchant Risk Council, and is a frequent speaker at credit card industry events on topics such as prepaid card security, payment card data security and fraud prevention.
GERRY WAGNER
Vice President, Acceptance and Client Relations, Discover Financial Services
Gerry Wagner is Vice President of Acceptance and Client
Relations for Discover Network, a business unit of Discover
Financial Services. In this role, Mr. Wagner is responsible
for developing and maintaining merchant and acquirer relationships,
as well as growing Discover Network Card acceptance throughout
North America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Mr. Wagner began his career with Discover in 1985 and has served in a variety of management positions within Discover Network’s merchant sales organization. Under his leadership, Discover Network Card acceptance and volume has shown significant growth every year compared to the prior year’s performance. Drawing on his nearly 30 years of experience in the payment-services industry, Mr. Wagner has been instrumental in the successful signing of Discover Network’s key merchant accounts and the payment industry’s largest merchant acquirers. In 2004 alone, he and his team successfully acquired more than one million new merchant outlets-an industry record. As part of Discover Network’s evolution, Mr. Wagner is the leader of its current strategy of partnering with acquirers to offer merchants the power of an integrated single-source solution for three major card networks. Not only has he been the face of Discover to the industry for many years, he has been a visible supporter and advocate for the industry and its organizations.
Prior to his tenure with Discover, Mr. Wagner held a variety of sales and sales management positions for two check guaranty companies, JBS Associates and Tele Credit.
Mr. Wagner serves on the Board of Directors and Civic Committee of the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association; the boards of ETA and ISO & Agent; and is an active volunteer for and contributor to Omni Youth Services of Lake County, IL.
He received his B.B.A. from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.
